Shiner wins Sacred Heart Tournament

An eleventh hour rally fell short as Shiner edged the Sacred Heart Indians, 9-8, in the finals of the 39th Annual SH Tournament Saturday night.

The Comanches led 9-2 entering the bottom of the seventh before SH scored six runs on two hits, two walks and a hit batsman.

Charlie Shanks was safe on an error to open the inning prior to Trent Sevcik’s infield out plating him. Emerson Harvey had a run-scoring base hit. After two consecutive walks, Dillon Goedrich hit a 2-0 pitch to right center for a triple to clear the bases before the final out was made.

SH committed five errors in the game.

Shiner scored in the first inning on a double by Charlie Clifford and added four more in the fourth on an error and with Landon Christensen driving in two with a base hit.

Shiner pushed across a run in the fourth inning without the benefit of a hit with two errors and a base on balls helping out.

In an unbelievable ending, the Indians rallied for all of their runs in the sixth and final inning to pull out the victory Friday night.

The Indians were lost at sea for three innings before pulling off the walk-off win.

With the bases loaded Dillon Goedrich walked to force in Ty Noska. The ball got by the catcher on the play and Trent Sevcik alertly scored from second base.

SH had just five hits with Emerson Harvey getting two of them and Layne Sevcik and Ty Noska and one each. The Indians had no hits entering the final inning.

The Falcons scored three runs in the first inning and single runs in both the third and fourth innings for a 5-0 advantage.

Layne Sevcik threw a two-hitter in the 4-0 victory Friday. He struck out 10 and walked one in the five-inning game.

The Indians scored in the first inning Emerson Harvey walked and scored on a Ty Noska infield out.

Harvey had the only hit in a two-run third. There were two walks in the frame and both runs scored on errors.
