Frigid temps, little rain seen in February
Weather in February was dominated by cold conditions and a shortage of rain.
A low of 22 degrees was recorded on the 20th, and was preceded by 25 degrees the day before. Neither was a record, but a record low high temperature of 36 degrees was set on Feb. 19.
The month’s high was 88 degrees on the eighth.
Daytime highs averaged 67.5 degrees (normal is 68) and morning lows averaged 46.6 degrees (normal is 45).
Records for the month include a low of six degrees on Feb. 2, 1951, and a high of 92 degrees on Feb. 21, 1996.
Rainfall for the month reached 0.91 of an inch with rain gauged on eight days. February normally receives 2.50 inches, leaving the month with a deficit of 1.59 inches. Adding that to January’s total of 3.13 inches gives the city a short-fall of 1.37 inches.
Rainfall records include 8.83 inches in 1955 and zero in 1916.
Fog was seen on 15 mornings and thunder was heard on one day.
