Whataburger receives receives outdoor dining tables
The Whataburger franchise, located adjacent to Morton’s Drive In on N. Texana St. in Hallettsville, decided to utilize the covered open pavilion located to the south of the establishment.
“We were trying to figure out what to do with the pavilion,” Whataburger field brand marketer Curt Harbers said. “We thought about tearing it down, but then came up with the idea of placing some tables at it.”
Harbers said they decided why not contact the two high schools (Hallettsville and Sacred Heart) to see if their shop classes would be interested in building outdoor tables and benches for the location.
“We felt it would be a good teaching lesson, so we contacted the school’s respective shop teachers and they both agreed,” Harbers said.
To build the tables, Harbers said Whataburger covered the cost of the materials and placed no parameters on the type of tables and benches the two classes could build.
Harbers said the students at HHS decided to build wood bench with a metal frame, while the Sacred Heart students used wood to put together two chairs along with a table top as well as a four-person picnic table.
“It was very neat to see the difference,” Harbers said. “We’re just ecstatic how it all turned out. We really appreciate the students and teachers for their effort. It definitely shows the future is bright in seeing the young people work.”
Participating in the table building from HHS were John Galloway and Wyatt Leopold and directed by shop teacher Heath Ressler.
The Sacred Heart students were under the guidance of shop teacher Steve Zornes and included Zuriel Robles, Cameron Cull, Tucker Boswell, Ty Noska, Timber Janak, Bryce Machicek, Brody Etzler, Kaeden Grahmann and Bowen Hawkins.
