YHS Bulldog Baseball Team gives good effort in two games against Brahmas

    The Bulldog baseball team started and completed the season series with Hallettsville last week.

    HALLETTSVILLE 13, YOAKUM 1

    The Brahmas held Yoakum to three hits and one run March 11 in a 13-1 win in Yoakum.

    Hallettsville broke a scoreless game with two runs in the top of the second and outscored Yoakum 4-1 in the third inning. The Brahmas scored five runs in the fourth inning and added two more in the fifth.

    Matt Blanchard was 1-for-2, run and double; Jamar Hopkins and Trae Cuellar got one hit each.

    Brenten Jacobs started on the mound and went 3 1/3 innings with 11 runs on eight hits, two walks and two strikeouts. Blanchard worked 1 2/3 innings in relief with three hits, two runs and four walks.

    In the field, Sutton Pavliska had eight putouts.

    In the return leg to Hallettsville Friday, Yoakum did not get a hit nor score a run in a 7-0 loss.

    The Brahmas scored three run in the first, three in the fifth and one in the sixth inning.

    Brett Lerch began on the hill, pitching four innings, with five runs on four hits, one walk and two strikeouts. Dalton Steinmann closed out with two innings with two runs on one hit and one walk.

    Pavliska had seven putouts on defense.
