Janak named reserve champion at HLSR junior commercial steer contest
The community of Hallettsville was well represented at this year’s Houston Livestock Show Junior Commercial Steer Contest.
Fifteen local FFA, Jr. FFA, and 4-H members participated in the contest this year.
Ryan Janak earned a spot as a “Top 8 Finalist” out of 171 contestants.
The “Top 8” exhibitors receive a HLSR Belt Buckle and a $1,000 cash prize and after a second interview with Beef industry professionals, Ryan was named Reserve Champion.
He earned a $10,000 cash prize and also won Top Test Score and Top Meat Identification each with $500 cash prizes.
Other members recognized at the HLSR Junior Commercial Steer contest included Kyle Svetlik for Highest Grading Pen of Steer ($600) and Holly Ressler for 3rd place in the Junior Division ($250).
“Hallettsville should be proud of all of our exhibitors for the way they represent our town,” Heath Ressler said. “We received many compliments on our group’s professionalism and competitiveness. We would also like to thank all our longtime community supporters for their commitment to this program.”
