Indians stay undefeated in District after wins over St. Paul, Bracken
Pitching carried the Sacred Heart Indians to two TAPPS District 5 Division 4 victories last week.
The latest was a 6-0 win over St. Paul here Friday.
Charlie Shank pitched a one-hitter. And at one time, he retired 15 batters in a row before Clay Watkins was safe on an error in the sixth inning.
The Cardinals loaded the bases in the sixth inning with one out before the Indians turned a 6-4-3 double play to get out of the inning.
Shanks, a freshman, struck out six, walked two and hit a batter.
The Indians scored two runs in the first on two hits and an error which would have ended the inning. Layne Sevcik and Bowen Hawkins produced RBI singles.
The Indians made it 5-0 with a three-run second inning.
Hudson Kutac walked and Bralen Heger singled. One run scored on a wild pitch and the other two on run-scoring singles by Ty Noska and Layne Sevcik.
The final run scored in the fifth inning on a single by Emerson Harvey which scored Trent Sevcik, who also singled.
Layne Sevcik had three of the Indians’ nine hits and two runs batted in.
The Indians are 10-6 overall and stand atop the district standings with a 4-0 ledger.

In a game that took only an hour and 55 minutes, the Indians beat Bulverde Bracken Christian School 4-0 here Tuesday, March 25 behind the four-hit pitching of Layne Sevcik.
Sevcik went the distance and threw 98 pitches. The sophomore right-hander missed a lot of bats with 13 strikeouts, walked just one and hit a batter. He went 2-for-3 at the plate with one run batted in.
D a l t o n D r e s c h matched Sevcik pitchfor-pitch and gave up six hits, hit a batter. Dresch ceded six hits, struck out seven and walked three in going the route.
The Indians scored a run in the first inning on an infield out by Bowen Hawkins after a walk to Trent Sevcik started the round.
SH made it 2-0 with a run in the third inning. Ty Noska led off with an infield hit and came across on a base hit by Layne Sevcik.
SH added two insurance runs in the fifth inning. Josh Terry’s base hit scored one of them and an infield out by Trent Ferry the other.
Layne Sevcik retired the first five batters he faced before allowing a base on balls in the third inning.
The Warriors loaded the bases with one out in the sixth before Layne Sevcik escaped any damage with two strikeouts in a row.
