Columbus edges LB, 3-1
The Hallettsville Lady Brahmas had a chance to take the District 25-AAA lead but fell to Columbus, 3-1 here Friday.
The victory avenged a 3-0 loss to the LB March 11 in Columbus.
Mia Post was the thorn in the side of Hallettsville with a threehitter and nine strikeouts with two bases on ball.
The Lady Brahmas (18-4, 8-3)stranded six baserunners and Columbus eight.
A strong south wind played a factor in the game. With one on and one out in the fourth inning, Addison Matula hit a ball that normally would have been out but was caught in deep left field.
Columbus (17-5, 9-2) scored all the runs they would need in the top of the first inning.
Post grounded out to start the frame. KJ Foster, Allie Brown and Allie Cranele all singled to load the bases. Abby Wiggs’ sacrifice fly scored Foster and a double by Ella Berger got in the final run.
Hallettsville replied with a run in the bottom of the first. With two outs, Grace Halata walked prior to Macey Pustka ripping a double to right center to score Halata.
Post helped her own cause with a two-out RBI single in the sixth inning.
Halata was the hardluck loser and gave up six hits and struck out three.

The Lady Brahmas routed Edna on the road Tuesday, April 1.
Hallettsville scored its runs on 17 hits and with the help of five Edna errors.
Ashlyn Pustka and Caitlynn both hit home runs.
