Track and field qualifies for state

Both Yoakum girls and boys regional track teams placed third at the regional meet Friday and Saturday in Seguin. 

The Lady Bulldogs placed third with 54 points. Gracei Martinez placed fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of two minutes, 26.4 seconds.

The 400 Relay team of Valentina Hopkins, Samantha Adamek, Makayla Olmedo, Jayla Hessler, Olivia Fojt, Lilly Fojt, and Faith McCloud placed third with 50.55. They had a time of 49.23 in the preliminaries. The 800-relay team of Hopkins, Adamek, Olmedo, Hessler, Emmie Leftwich, Martinez, Angela Flores and Ximena Miller took first place with 1:46.61. Their prelims time was 1:45.83. The 1600-relay team of Flores, Martinez, Hessler, Adamek, Leftwich, Miller, Lilly Fojt, and Olivia Fojt earned fourth with 4:14.25 and 4:14.81 in the prelims. Hessler won the triple jump with 37 feet, 8 ¼ inches. Hessler and the 800-relay team will compete at state.

Yoakum had 54 points for third place as well. Jace Morales got fourth in the 100 with 10.84 (10.65 in prelims). Kennan Dilworth was seventh in the 200 with 23.74 (22.84 in prelims).

Aiden Alvarez was No. 14 in the 1600 with 4:59.3 and was No. 16 in the 3200 with 11:41.28. Gage Harrison was fifth in the 110 hurdles with 15.25 after a 15.44 in the prelims. He took fourth in the 300 hurdles with 41.05 with a 42.16 in the prelims.

The 800-relay team of Trae Cuellar, X’Zavier Barnett, Morales, Dilworth, Donovan Toussaint, Brennan Kaiser, Tavion Wright, and Brayden Neubauer was third in 1:29.34 (1:29.65 in prelims).

Harrison was fourth in the high jump with 6. Hopkins was third in the long jump with 21-11 ¾ and Barnett was fourth with 21-6 ½. Barnett won the triple jump with 45-9 ¾ and Cuellar was runner up with 44-6 ½. Barnett and Cuellar will compete at state in the triple jump.
