Lady Bulldogs beat Lady Cobras, come up short to Lady Brahmas
The softball team lost to Tidehaven and beat Edna to split the last two district games before stomping Industrial in playoff-seeding game.
TIDEHAVEN 9, YOAKUM 4
Tidehaven outscored the Lady Bulldogs 5-1 in the fourth inning to get them to a 9-4 win April 11 in Tidehaven. The teams split four runs in the fifth inning. Tidehaven outscored Yoakum 2-1 in the third inning to start scoring. Yoakum outhit the Lady Tigers 8-6 but had six errors.
At the plate, Faith McCloud was 2-for-4 with one run; Olivia Fojt and Hannah Schultz each had a double. Schultz pitched three innings with four hits, seven runs, a walk and three strikeouts. Lilly Fojt went three squares with two runs on two hits, one walk and two strikeouts.Kailynn Sherrer made seven putouts in the field.
The Lady Bulldogs softball defeated Industrial and lost to Hallettsville in a pair of one-run games.
YOAKUM 13, EDNA 5
Yoakum rebounded quickly with a 14-hit, 13-5 win over Edna April 15 at home. Yoakum led 4-0 after one inning and 6-0 after two innings. The Lady ‘Dogs scored two runs in the fourth inning before each team brought home five runs in the fifth inning. Schultz led at the plate by going 2-for-4, three RBI, two doubles; Olivia Fojt batted 2-for-5, two runs, double and three RBI; McCloud hit 2-for-4 with three runs; Hanna Garvin was 2-for-3 with two runs, and Madisen Grant finished 2-for-4 with two RBI. Schultz pitched four innings with two hits, four runs, one walk and four strikeouts. Lilly Fojt closed with three innings, one run on two hits and three strikouets. Sherrer made four putouts.
YOAKUM 11, INDUSTRIAL 1
Yoakum faced Industrial for a game to determine third place on Thursday, defeating the Lady Cobras 11-1.
Yoakum led 4-0 after the first inning and 9-0 after two innings. Industrial got within 9-1 in the bottom of the third before the Lady ‘Dogs scored two runs in the top of the fifth. McCloud went 2-for-4 with two runs; Garvin swung 2-for-3 with one run; Kilynn Poole hit a triple, had three RBI and scored one run.Schultz pitched three innings with two hits, one run, three walks and two strikeouts while Lilly Fojt closed the game with two innings and five strikeouts. Garvin had two putouts on defense.
YOAKUM 9, INDUSTRIAL 8
With two outs and Yoakum trailing 8-7, Kilynn Poole stepped up to to the plate, batted the ball to center field and scored Faith McCloud and Olivia Fojt to walk off a 9-8 win against the Industrial Lady Cobras April 4 at home.
The game was tied at 1-1 after the first inning; Yoakum took a 2-1 lead after two innings; Industrial scored twice in the third inning and then outscored the Lady Bulldogs 3-2 in the fifth. The teams shared two runs in the sixth for a 7-5 Industrial lead.
The Lady Cobras went ahead 8-5 in the top of the seventh. Yoakum scored two runs before the gamewinning double. Poole led the Lady Bulldogs at the plate with three hits, double, run and two RBI; Olivia Fojt hit 2-for-5, three RBI and two runs. Deveah Rios was 2-for-3, two run with McCloud getting two hits and scoring one run.
Schultz started at pitcher and went 4 2/3 innings with six runs on seven hits, a walk and six strikeouts. Lilly Fojt pitched 2 1/3 innings in relief with one hit, two runs, four walks and one strikeout. Kailynn Sherrer made five putouts in the field.

The Lady Brahmas outscored the Lady Bulldogs 2-1 in the seventh inning to come back from a 2-2 tie to edge the Lady Bulldogs 4-3 April 8 in Yoakum. Hallettsville took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and was ahead 2-0 after two and half innings. Yoakum scored twice to knot the game. At the plate, McCloud batted 2-for-4 with one run and Olivia Fojt hit 2-for-3 with one run. Schultz pitched the first 6 1/3 innings with two runs on three hits, three walks and four strikeouts. Lilly Fojt worked 2/3 inning with two runs on three hits, a walk and a strikeout. McCloud and Sherrer each made four putouts in the field.
