Indians dispatch Eagles to advance to State Tourney

VICTORIA – The Sacred Heart Indians advanced to the TAPPS Division IV state tournament with a 9-4 victory over Brazosport Christian School at Riverside Park Tuesday, April 29.

The Sevcik brothers - Layne and Trent - led the win.

Layne Sevcik was the starting and winning pitcher. He went six-plus innings, and he and reliever, Dillon Goedrich, allowed no hits.

Layne Sevcik struck out eight, walked five and hit a batter. He also went 3-for-3 at the plate with a triple and two RBI.

Trent Sevcik was 3-for- -3, scored three runs and drove in two runs.

Save base running errors, the score could have been worse.

The Indians scored a run in the top of the first inning.

Ty Noska was hit by a pitch, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Layne Sevcik.

The Eagles replied in the bottom of the inning with an unearned run.

The Indians made it 5-1 with four runs in the second inning.

With one out, Hudson Kutac singled, stole second and came around on a base hit by Trent Sevcik. Goedrich walked and Trent Sevcik scored on a sacrifice fly by Noska. Emerson Harvey and Josh Terry ensued with runscoring singles.

Trent Sevcik drove in a run with a single in the third inning.

The Eagles countered with an unearned run in the bottom of the frame on an error.

The Indians scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

Sevcik has a lead off with a triple and scored on a bunt by Harvey.

The Eagles scored twice in the bottom of the seventh with both coming across on an error.

Goedrich had an RBI single in the fifth inning.
