Twenty-two graduate at Sacred Heart Catholic HS
Sacred Heart Catholic High School held its graduation ceremonies Sunday afternoon, May 18 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Hallettsville with 22 seniors receiving their diplomas.
The top graduates were recognized with Brianna Clark named valedictorian, Marcus Seger, salutatorian, and Laura Varela, Historian.
Brianna is the daughter of John Paul and Shanna Clark and was named Valedictorian for the SHCHS graduating class of 2025. Brianna earned a four-year high honors average of 102.68.
Throughout high school, Brianna has been involved in volleyball, basketball, art and Student Council. She served as the senior class president and secretary her freshman year.
Brianna was named on the first-team All Academic All-State team in both volleyball and basketball as well as selected to the first team in basketball.
She was also the TAPPS State Art champion in Mixed Media in her junior year and placed third in state in her Senior Portfolio. She also participated in the TAPPS Academic meet all four years.
Brianna was named homecoming and coronation queen and received the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award and was a Hallettsville Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Senior Student nominee.
Each year, she has received the Athletic and Academic Achievement award and also participated in the Life First Video contest, the Robotics Camp at UH-Victoria and placed first in the VFW Essay contest.
Brianna belonged to a number of clubs including Leos Club, serving as president, the Teens for Life, where she was a representative, the National Honor Society, Astronomy Club and the Czech Heritage Club.
She was also very involved with the community and church, where she volunteered her time to school functions, church picnics, benefit and plate-to-go dinners and the Adopt-a-Highway program as well as serving as an altar server.
Brianna plans to attend Texas A&M University in College Station and pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture.
Marcus Seger is the son of Michael and Krystal Seger and has been named the salutatorian with a highest honors average of 101.93.
Marcus has been on the high honor roll all four years in high school and participated in many extracurricular activities.
Marcus was a member of the TAPPS State Academic team, the National Honor Society, and the Astronomy Club and served various officer positions in the club. He was also voted chaplain in the National Honor Society.
He was a member of the twotime TAPPS State Champion Band and competed in state on the 4x400m relay team and played on the state qualifying golf team and baseball teams. He placed in the state academic meet in Number Sense and also finished third in the Voice of Democracy Essay contest.
He played on the Indians’ state semi-final football team and was named second team tight end and was selected on the Academic AllState team in football. He was also an honorable-mention selection in basketball his senior year.
Marcus was active in the community and surrounding communities where he volunteers at church picnics, Sacred Heart Booster Club meals, Schulenburg KC meals and rang the bell for the La Grange Salvation Army. He also served as a lector in church.
Marcus has been accepted to a number of different colleges as well as the Honors Program in the College of Engineering at Texas A&M University. He will attend Texas A&M and pursue a degree in Aerospace Engineering.
Laura Varela, daughter of Daniel and Laura Varela, was named Historian.
