LCSO to sponsor a cadet in the Victoria College Law Enforcement Academy

The Lavaca County Sheriff ’s Office plans to sponsor a single officer cadet in the fall semester’s Victoria College Law Enforcement Academy.

According to a LCSO Facebook post, if the cadet is accepted, he or she will undergo 21 weeks of intensive, disciplined military-style training and must adhere to a strict code of conduct.

Cadets receive the Texas Commission of Law Enforcement ( TCOLE) basic peace officer course curriculum through classroom and practical exercises and undergo intense physical fitness training throughout the length of the academy.

Upon successful completion of the academy, the newly minted law enforcement professional will return to Lavaca County to continue to protect and serve the residents.

Recently, the sheriff ’s office conducted selection testing of two current LCSO employees who wish to attend the academy as a sponsored candidate.

Both have been employed as correctional officers in the Lavaca County jail and have continually demonstrated themselves to be outstanding LCSO employees and worthy candidates of this selection.

The testing consisted of a written test taken from the National Police Officer Selection Test (POST), a physical fitness test, consisting of sit-ups, pushup and a 1.5 mile run as well as a writing test designed to measure the candidate’s ability to accurately articulate their observations.

“I would personally like to commend both candidates for their grit, fortitude, and hard work as well as their continued desire to dedicate themselves to public service,” sheriff Steven Greenwell said in the post. “I am proud of you both.”
