MLB wins Dist. Title

Hallettsville Major League baseball advanced to the Sectional Tournament by sweeping New Braunfels Red.

Alex Grahmann pitched a one-hitter in a 1-0 victory on Monday, June 23 in Lockhart.

Grahmann gave up five hits, no walks and struck out six in going the distance. He threw 82 pitches, 52 for strikes.

Braden Utley scored the game’s only run in the second inning.

Hallettsville had just four hits and stranded five baserunners.

Utley, Karter Podhajsky, Chans Janak and Jake Davenport had the hits.

H’ville 11, NBR 7

A nine-run fourth inning was the difference in the 11-7 victory in La Vernia Tuesday, June 24.

Hallettsville collected 11 hits and took advantage of three NBR errors and four walks.

Colt Wagner went 2-for-3 and scored two runs. Aiden Sosa had two hits in three trips to the plate with three hits, a double and three RBI. Braden Utley doubled and drove in one run. Brax Threadgill, Alex Grahmann, Steffek and Davenport had one hit each with a run batted in. Kolby Kolacny singled and knocked in two runs.

Karter Podhajsky was the starting pitcher and worked two innings and ceded two runs (one earned), two hits and recorded one strikeout.

Brantley Steffek was the winning pitcher in relief. Steffek pitched 3.2 innings and gave up five runs (one earned), four hits and fanned two.

Jake Davenport threw the final one-third of an inning and struck out the only batter he faced.
