Major Girls win Section 4 Tourney
KARNES CITY – Good pitching, defense and hitting carried the Hallettsville Major League girls to the Section 4 Tournament championship in the games played at Drs. C.W. and Joyce Kimble field.
The locals committed just two errors in the tournament and got strong pitching performances from Kenley Sevcik and Macyn Wimberly.
Hallettsville defeated Sinton, 11-2, in four innings Sunday evening to clinch the championship Sunday evening and finish undefeated.
Sevcik gave up three hits, struck out two and walked two.
The pounding of Sinton came early when Hallettsville scored seven runs in the first inning on four hits, a hit by pitch and two errors.
Amryn Etzler reached on an error, Sevcik was safe on a fielder’s choice and Macyn Wimberly was safe on another error to load the bases. Piper Hawkins hit the first pitch she saw for a two-run single to right field. After a pop out,Brenna Bucek’s single scored Wimberly. After Quinn Henneke was hit by the pitch,Landry Whitley delivered a runscoring base hit. Following a strikeout, Addison Hernandez brought home two runs with a single to left center for the final runs of the inning.
Two runs scored in the second inning on a single by Sevcik and a double by Hawkins.
Hallettsville ended the scoring with two runs in the fourth inning.
Blair Ranly hit an inside-the-park home run followed by a double by Etzler. Etzler scored on a sacrifice fly by Wimberly to end the game.
H’ville 10, Sinton 0
Hallettsville whitewashed Sinton, 10-0 in the semifinals Thursday.
Macyn Wimberly allowed no hits, walked four and struck out 10 in the four-inning game.
Hallettsville led 4-0 after three innings before breaking the game open with a six-run fourth inning.
Quinn Henneke led off the round with a base hit, stole second and scored on an Addison Hernandez single after a walk to Baye Shimek. Kacie Davis drew a base on balls before scoring on a wild pitch. Kenley Sevcik reached on an error prior to scoring on a single by Wimberly. Wimberly scored on a wild pitch to end the game.
Hallettsville amassed 11 hits in the contest. Sevcik and Henneke had two hits apiece. Sevcik tripled and drove in two runs. Henneke was 2-for-2 with a RBI.
H’ville 12, Palacios 2
In another four-inning game, Hallettsville defeated Palacios, 12-2, Wednesday, July 2.
Kenley Sevcik was in the circle and allowed one hit, walked four and struck out four. Both runs Sevcik ceded were unearned.
Hallettsville took advantage of four walks and three Palacios errors.
The All Stars had seven hits. Adley Zappe went 2-for-2 with a RBI. Amryn Etzler singled and drove in a run. Addison Hernandez hit a run-scoring single. Sevcik had a RBI single. Quinn Henneke hit a run-scoring single. Piper Hawkins knocked in a run with a single. Landry Whitley and Baye Shimek scored two runs each.
H’ville 6, Needville 2
In its closest game of the tournament, Hallettsville broke a 2-2 tied with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning in taking a 6-2 victory Tuesday, July 1.
Landry Whitley led off the sixth inning with a single and scored on a base hit by Baye Shimek. Needville misplayed a bunt by Addison Hernandez to score Shimek. Hernandez scored on a wild pitch. Amryn Etzler was safe on an other error and scored on a single by Macyn Wimberly.
Wimberly and Kenley Sevcik combined to throw a no- hitter.
Wimberly worked the first four innings and ceded two runs (none earned), walked five and recorded eight strikeouts.
Kenley Sevcik was the winning pitcher and tossed the final two innings. Sevcik walked one and fanned five.
Hallettsville broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the fourth inning.
The All Stars had just one hit until Wimberly led off with a triple to begin the fourth. Piper Hawkins was safe on an error prior to Brenna Bucek hitting an 0-2 pitch to right field for a double to score Hawkins.
Hallettsville collected seven hits and stranded five baserunners with Wimberly going 3-for-3. Quinn Henneke also hit safely.
