Major Girls headed to Waco

ROSENBERG – The Hallettsville Major League All-Stars went unscathed in winning the Texas East State Tournament.

Hallettsville defeated Sealy, 10-1, Monday evening to advance to the Southwest Regional Tournament in Waco.

“The goal of this team has been and will continue to be one opponent, one game, one win at a time,” Hallettsville manager Kevin Zappe said. “These girls play as a team. They cheer each other on, lift each other up and love each other.

“Every girl knows their role and plays a part in every win.”

The teams in the tournament are Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas West. Hallettsville drew a first round bye and will play the winner of Texas West and New Mexico Tuesday, July 22.

The locals had defeated Sealy 15-0 on Saturday. Sealy was the first team to score on Hallettsville and the first to take them six innings this time around.

Macyn Wimberly was the winning pitcher in relief of Kenley Sevcik.

Wimberly gave up the only Sealy run, two hits, walked one and recorded five strikeouts in the 3.2 innings she worked.

At one point, she retired seven batters in a row before a lead-off single by Gerry Cryan in the sixth inning. Sevcik gave up no hits, walked three and fanned two.

Hallettsville took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on two hits and an error. Blair Ranly led off by beating out an infield out, Amryn Etzler was safe on an error before Wimberly hit a 1-1 pitch to the alley in left center for a three-run, insidethe-park homer.

Two more runs scored in the second inning for a 5-0 advantage.

Sevcik reached on an error and scored on an error. Quinn Henneke singled prior to scoring on a wild pitch.

The locals made it 9-0 with four runs in the third frame.

Ranly and Etzler led off with singles and Wimberly was hit by the pitch to load the bases. After a sacrifice by Piper Hawkins, Adley Zappe hit a two run single to center and scored on a Sevcik base hit.

The final run scored in the fifth inning.

Wimberly, who was 2-for-2 with three runs scored, doubled with one out and eventually stole home on the front end of a double steal.

Hallettsville stroked 10 hits with Ranly, Wimberly and Zappe having a multi-hit game.

Kenley Sevcik almost pitched a perfect threeinning game Saturday in the rout of Sealy.

Sevcik walked one batter and struck out seven.

Sevcik also hit an inside-the-park home run as the locals amassed 13 hits, five for extra bases.

H’ville 16, Lumberton 0

Hallettsville blitzed Lumberton 16-0 in five innings in the first game of the tournament Friday.

Hallettsville led 5-0 before scoring four runs in the fifth inning and seven in the fifth to end the game early.

Macyn Wimberly was the winning pitcher and worked the first four inning. She gave up the lone Lumberton hit, walked on and struck out eight.

Quinn Henneke threw a perfect final frame.

Hallettsville collected 14 hits, drew four walks and also took advantage of three Lumberton errors. Four of the hits went for extra bases.

Hallettsville scored five runs in the first inning on four hits and a base on balls.

Blair Ranly led off with a single and stole second. After a strikeout, Ranly scored on a single by Wimberly. Wimberly scored on a fielder’s choice before run-scoring base hits by Brenna Bucek and Kenley Sevcik.

Hallettsville went scoreless the next two inning prior to scoring four runs in the fourth inning.

Sevcik and Hen - neke scored on passed balls after getting a hit. Landry Whitley stole home after a walk. Two more runs scored on errors.

Four extra base hits made up the seventh inning.

Sevcik and Henneke led the hitting with both going 3-for-3.
