Moulton ISD approved naming of Band Hall in dedication of George Koudelka

The Moulton Independent School District board approved naming the Band Hall in honor of George Koudelka at the July 9 meeting.

This comes after board members approved naming the new gym in honor of Tommy Hoyer as well as naming the basketball court in honor of Sammie Koudelka. This is at no cost to the district and will be done solely by donations.

“We had some discussion and great feedback from the community on some of the other memorials that we did with Hoyer and Coach Koudelka,” Board President Justin Anderle said. “We had some people saying we should give George Koudelka some recognition and it didn’t take long for anybody to agree with that. Again, this is at no cost to the district. We’re just trying to build a little spirit off of some of these people that have contributed essentially a lifetime to our campus.”

In public comment, Coach Randy Stevenson recognized some students who received a UIL scholarship. There were five students who received the scholarships, and it totaled $22,000. The students were Torin Langston, Moises Manzano, Jaxon Bartos, Emma Buehring and Travis Haikenwaelder.

“Congratulations to our five outstanding students who received the scholarships,” Stevenson said. “We are incredibly proud of their hard work and dedication in UIL academics and for a school that supports this activity. These scholarships are a testament to how UIL programs open doors to bright futures equipping students with the skills and opportunities to excel beyond high school.”

Other items on the agenda include:

• Board members tabled a Reading and Math Grant Award.

• Board members appointed Deborah Sevcik as the person designated to calculate the 2025 Tax Rates.

• Board members approved SouthStar Bank as the designated bank for MISD. They named people to use that account as designated bank signers.

• Board members discussed the Student Resource Officer contract. MISD board members also discussed the Guardian Program which allows some designated staff members to carry a concealed weapon in the case of an active shooter. Recently, the Moulton Police Department did an active shooter training on the campus.

• This was the first board meeting with new Superintendent Clay Currier. His last gig was in Leander. A more detailed article on him will be in next week’s Moulton Eagle edition.
