Shiner baseball: Wenske plays in 17 games with four starts for WCJC

2023 Comanche graduate Drew Wenske continued his collegiate baseball career as a sophomore at Wharton County Junior College during the 2025 season.
Wenske played in 17 games at pitcher and WCJC posted a 27-28 record, 17-18 in conference play, 11-10 at home, 8-13 on the road and 8-5 at neutral sites. The Pioneers were 7-10 when Wenske played.
His first action of the season was Feb. 2 in the finale of three-game series against Angelina College. Wenske pitched one inning with one strikeout, four at bats, four batters saved and picked up a save in the 9-7 Pioneer win.
On Feb. 9 in a 7-5 win over Grayson College, he pitched three innings, five hits, two runs, two earned runs, two strikeouts, 14 at bats, 14 batters faced and in the field, he had two assists on two chances for 1.000 fielding.
In an 8-0 WCJC win in the second game of a series against Temple College on Feb. 17, Wenske pitched four innings, got the win for a 1-0 record with two hits, one walk, five strikeouts, 15 at bats and 16 batters faced.
In the opener of a three-game series against San Jacinto College-North at home, he pitched 1 1/3 innings, took the loss to fall to 1-1 with one hit, one run, one earned run, one strikeout, one home run, five at bats and five batters faced as San Jacinto College-North won a close game 7-6.
Wenske worked one inning with two hits, four runs, one walk, two strikeouts, one hit by pitch, seven at bats, nine batters faced and made one putout on one chance in the field for 1.000 fielding as the Pioneers fell by one run 8-7.
He started in the opener of a four-game series against Alvin Community College on March 5 in an 8-4 win for WCJC. Wenske pitched four innings, earned the win to improve to 2-1, four hits, two runs, two earned runs, four strikeouts, one hit by pitch, 17 at bats and 18 batters faced. In the field, he had one chance, one assist and 1.000 fielding.
He was in the lineup for the first game of a three-game series March 13 at Coastal Bend College with the Pioneers winning 14-4.
In the opener of a four-game series March 18 at Blinn, a 12-8 loss for the Pioneers, Wenske started, pitched two innings, fell to 2-2 on the year with five hits, four runs, four earned runs, six strikeouts, one home run, 11 at bats and 11 batters faced.
In the third game of the series at Blinn College, he pitched 1/3 of an inning, took the loss (2-3), yielded one hit, one run, three at bats and three batters faced; in the field, he had two chances, one error, one assist for .500 fielding as WCJC lost 3-2.
In the second game of a three-game series against Galveston College on the road on March 26, Wenske pitched 1/3 of an inning, two walks, two at bats, four batters faced, one putout on one chance and 1.000 fielding in the Pioneers 4-1 loss. He played in the closer of the series March 30 at home; WCJC fell 8-6 as Wenske worked 1/3 of an inning, took the loss to fall to 2-5 with four hits, four runs, four earned runs, two walks, five at bats and eight batters faced.
In the opening game of a four-game series against San Jacinto College-North April 1 at home, the Pioneers lost 3-1 and Wenske pitched  2/3 of an inning with two walks, one strikeout, one hit by pitch, three at bats and five batters faced.
He played the next game (April 3 at San Jacinto College-North), taking the loss (2-6) in a 3-2 Pioneer loss. 
In the field, he had one chance, one error and .000 fielding.
In the April 14 first game of a four-game series at Coastal Bend College, Wenske started, pitched 4 1/3 innings with seven hits, four runs, three earned runs, two walks, three strikeouts, one home run, 19 at bats and 21 batters faced as WCJC won 9-7. 
In the opener of a three-game series on April 22 at Blinn College, he worked 3 1/3 innings, six hits, one run, one earned run, two walks, three strikeouts, one wild pitch, 13 at bats and 15 batters faced as Blinn College won the game 9-6.
In a home game against Paris Junior College on May 9, Wenske pitched two innings, one walk, one strikeout, six at bats and seven batters faced in a 14-6 Pioneer victory.
Wenske’s final game was May 10 in the first game of a two-game series at Blinn College where he pitched 1/3 of an inning, one hit, two at bats and two batters faced as WCJC lost 7-5.
Wenske appeared in 17 games at pitcher, started four games, had a 2-6 record, 5.18 ERA, 33 innings pitched, 42 hits, 26 runs, 19 earned runs, 17 walks, 32 strikeouts, 8.73 strikeouts per nine innings, three home runs, 1.79 WHIP, 168 batters faced and four hit by pitch. 
On defense, he had eight total chances, two putouts, four assists, two errors and .750 fielding.
Next year, Wenske will play for the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks.
