Shiner football: Shiner ends three years of frustation with 39-7 victory over Hallettsville

    Quincy Jones rushed for two touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass as Shiner defeated Hallettsville 39-7 Friday night in Hallettsville to halt a three-game skid.
    The Comanches, who had not beaten the Brahmas since 2021, led 25-0 at halftime and outscored Hallettsville 14-7 in the second half.
    Hallettsville had outscored Shiner 25.6-10.0 on the average in the last three meetings but could only muster a single score past the Comanche defense and had 44 plays for 172 yards of offense.
    The Comanches ran 45 plays for 296 yards with 41 carries for 208 yards and also had 88 yards passing.
    Jones led the Comanches on the ground with 117 yards on eight carries while Triston Vesely had four totes for 41 yards and two scores. Caleb Cowan ran the football 11 times for 57 yards and one touchdown. 
    Jarvis Williams was 4-for-4 for 88 yards and one touchdown. Boe Boehm had two catches for 18 yards, Jones had his long-touchdown reception and Charlie Clifford had one grab for 12 yards.
    Shiner opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 10-play, 70-yard drive with Jones scoring on a 10-yard run on a 4th-and-6.
    Later in the quarter, Shiner lost a fumble inside the Brahma 10 but forced a punt and took over at the Hallettsville 30, scoring in three plays on Cowan’s 12-yard run for a 13-0 lead 90 seconds into the second quarter. 
    Jones had a 29-yard run to cap a 55-yard drive for a 19-0 lead with 5:24 left in the half and then scored on the 58-yard pass from Williams with 1:49 left in the second.
    In the third quarter, Vesely scored on runs of 10 and 29 yards.
    The Brahmas ended the shutout with a 3-yard run by Wyatt Kram with 7:41 left in the game.
