Shiner football: End-of-game stand by defense gives Shiner win over FC

    Three third-second quarter touchdowns and defense that came up with a big stop near the end of the game got the Shiner Comanches a 21-14 win at Falls City last Friday to improve to 2-0 in district and 7-0 overall.
    Down 21-14 to start the fourth quarter and the ball at their own 1-yard line after a 57-yard punt, Falls City moved 93 yards down to the Shiner 7 in about 22 plays, facing a 3rd-and-6 and threw an incomplete pass. The Beavers tried another pass on fourth down on literally the last offensive play of the game to try to tie or win the game but did not complete the pass, allowing Shiner to get out with the win.
    The Beavers had plenty more of the football than Shiner running 55 plays for 250 total yards while the Comanches had 35 plays for 170 yards.
    Jarvis Williams led Shiner on the ground with 71 yards and one touchdown while Clayton Fric rushed for 45 yards and two touchdowns.
    For FC, quarterback Braylon Johnson carried his team’s offensive load with 183 rushing yards.
    After forcing Shiner to punt on the game’s first drive, the Beavers drove 62 yards in 13 plays, scoring on a Luke Morawietz 3-yard run with 2:28 left in the frame for a 7-0 lead.
    Shiner responded on the next drive, going 65 yards in 11 plays, tying the game on a 6-yard run by Fric with 9:28 left in the first half.
    The Comanches took a 14-7 lead at the 5:45 mark of the second with a 43-yard run by Williams and Fric got what would become the game-winning score on a 1-yard run with 24 seconds left until halftime.
    With under two minutes left in the third quarter, Johnson raced 69 yards for a touchdown that would keep the Beavers in the game until the end.
