St. Paul boys basketball: Cards beat Waelder, win RTC tourney
The St. Paul boys basketball team defeated Waelder and won the Round Top-Carmine Tournament in last week’s games.

The Cardinals scored at least 20 points in each quarter in a 96-38 rout of Waelder Dec. 2 at home.
The Cards led 22-11 after one quarter and 47-19 at halftime.
St. Paul outscored the Wildcats 23-9 in the third quarter and 26-10 in the final eight minutes.
Five St. Paul players scored double-digit points led by 22 from Carter Chilek and 20 by Jace Matias.
Elijah Holiday and Xavier Ford each scored 10 points for Waelder.

The Cardinals went 4-0 to win the Round Top-Carmine Tournament.

Matias scored 28 points as St. Paul opened the tournament with a 88-45 win over hosts RTC Cubs on Friday.
St. Paul led 24-13 after the first quarter and outscored Round Top 28-13 in the second box.
They scored 24 of 38 points in the third box and went on a 12-5 run in the fourth quarter.
William Neese led the Cubs with 13 points.

Jack Leonard sank 18 points and Matias added 17 points as St. Paul won a lopsided game against Bastrop Tribe Consolidated 87-33 in their second Friday game.
The Cards led 27-8 after one frame and outscored Tribe 25-6 in the second period.
St. Paul took a 69-27 lead after the third period and outscored Tribe 18-6 in the fourth quarter.
Brody Rizk and Charlie Richard each scored seven points for the Tribe.
