Darryl Kalich
Darryl Dwight Kalich, 59, of Shiner, passed away Friday, January 2, 2026.
He was born January 27, 1966 in Weimar, to Henry Jr. and Lillie Jasek Kalich.
After high school he attended St. Thomas University in Houston. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree and then went on to study at the Pontifical North American College in Rome as a seminarian.
He worked for a short period of time as a probation officer, but then he started his career with Social Security Administration. He began in Victoria, then to San Marcos and Seguin. He took pride in being selected as the district manager of the Social Security office in Victoria a year ago.
He loved his kids and his wife Kim so much and was so proud of the kids.
He was a member of Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. He served as a youth eucharistic minister and was on the vocation committee. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus, Shiner Volunteer Fire Department and Young Farmers.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, spending time with all his nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews, gardening, working in the flower beds, cooking and baking.
On Sundays he would go riding and would stop to visit with people and pray with them and go to Bea’s to visit with people.
He was a very faithful and humble man, friend to all, never met a stranger and had so much love in his heart.
Survivors include his wife, Kim Hagens Kalich; daughter, Addie Kalich; son, Caleb Kalich; his mother, Lillie Kalich; and brothers, Tim Kalich (Jill) and Rodney Kalich (Phyllis).
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Kalich Jr.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Friday, January 9 at Thiele-Cooper Funeral Home.
Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 10 at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, with the Rev. Jacob Mendoza officiating.
Burial followed at Shiner Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Dick, Ray Neal, JR Peters, Dr. Cody Pohler, Dr. Kelsey Pohler, Dr. Ky Pohler, Kevin Pruitt and Apolonio Rivera.
Honorary pallbearers are friends of the Shiner Fire Department.
Memorial contributions may be given to Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, Shiner Academic and Athletic Foundation, Shiner Volunteer Fire Department or donor’s choice.
