St. Paul baseball: Cardinals nine get two wins in Flatonia tournament
St. Paul lost at Wallis Brazos and went 2-1 in the Flatonia Tournament in last week’s action.

St. Paul got no hits and one base runner in a 14-0 loss at Wallis Brazos on March 3.
The Cougars scored four runs in the first inning, three in the second and one in the third before scoring six runs in the fourth inning.
Jace Matias pitched 1 2/3 innings with seven runs on six hits, four walks and two strikeouts. Ian Kennedy closed out with 2 1/3 innings, five hits, seven runs, one batter hit, two walks and two strikeouts.
Brodey Biehunko had three putouts and one assist while CJ Fogle had three putouts.

Biehunko was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI; Levi Leonard had two hits, one run and one RBI while Kennedy doubled and scored one run in the Cardinals’ 7-2 win over Florence on Thursday morning.
The game was 1-1 after one inning and St. Paul scored two in the fourth to break the tie before outscoring Florence 4-1 in the fifth inning.
Fogle got the win with four innings pitched, three hits, one run, three walks and 11 strikeouts. Levi Leonard worked one inning with one run, one batter hit and one strikeout.

Fogle hit 3-for-4, home run, two runs, two doubles and two RBI to lead St. Paul to a 7-2 win over the host Bulldogs Thursday afternoon. Matias hit 3-for-4, triple and two runs while Jack Ehrig got two hits, doubled and scored one run.
St. Paul scored three runs to start the game; Flatonia got within 4-2 in the second inning before the Cardinals outscored them 1-0 in the third and 2-0 in the fifth.
Evan Rother earned the win with two runs on five hits, one batter hit, two walks and six strikeouts in a six-inning outing.

Sch’nburg 16, St. Paul 0
Schulenburg scored six runs to start the game and another eight runs in the fourth inning to defeat the Cardinals 16-0 in four innings on Friday morning.
The Shorthorns had 10 hits and five extra-base hits while holding St. Paul to three hits. The Cardinals committed eight errors in the field.
Schulenburg’s Reid Janada started the game with a leadoff double; Jayse Janada reached on an error; Owen Brenek doubled in Reid Janda; Emerson Harvey grounded out to first base to score Jayse Janada. Ian Reeves got a hit; Connor Lichnovsky singled in Brenek. Eli Blansit reached on an error while runner Victori scored. Lichnovsky later stole third and continued home on the error while Blansit got to third. Schulenburg scored one more run on one more hit.
St. Paul had a good start in the bottom of the first as Rother led off with a double and Matias was walked but both runners were left stranded.
Reid Janada led off the second with a double. Later, he was thrown at home by a pass from Matias at shortstop to catcher Rother on a fielder’s choice. Brenek scored the only run when Lichnovsky grounded out to Biehunko at second.
In the third frame, Landon Connor was walked and later scored when Brenek was walked with bases loaded.
In the fourth inning, the ‘Horns got two hits but took advantage of four St. Paul errors, one batter hit and three walks to score eight runs.
Kennedy pitched two innings with seven hits, seven runs, one walk and one strikeout. Jack Leonard went one inning, two hits, six runs, one batter hit, four walks and two strikeouts while Levi Leonard pitched one inning, three runs on one hit and one walk.
Fogle had five putouts on defense.
