Fiddlers’ Frolics next weekend
The Texas State Championship Fiddlers’ Frolics is on tap for next weekend with fiddlers from throughout Texas as well as out of state competing to see who is the top fiddle player.
Besides the various fiddling contest throughout the weekend, Frolics organizers have lined up a wealth of talented singers and musicians to provide entertainment during the two-day event.
Beginning on Friday evening, the son of Merle Haggard, Marty Haggard will perform on stage in the Hallettsville KC Hall.
Haggard will be followed by Bennie Wheels and Walkin’ the Line, who play tribute to Johnny Cash.
During the day on Saturday, fiddle contest will take place and in the evening local favorite band Broken Alibi will open for Top 100 country singer T. G. Sheppard.
The highlight of the event will take place on Sunday when fiddlers from throughout the state will compete for the title of the Texas State Championship Fiddlers’ Frolics title.
Also during the weekend, barbecue cooks from throughout the area will see who can turn out the best tasting foods in the annual BBQ Cook-off. The barbecue cooks will compete in divisions including brisket, chicken, sausage, steak as well as who can make the best gumbo, barbecue sauce and other tasty foods.
