Council nixes CR 200 manufactured home park after hearing from citizens

The Hallettsville city council was blitzed with citizens - mostly against - on the building of a manufactured home park at 161 CR 200 at Monday night’s monthly meeting.
Concerns about more traffic, safety and noise summed up sentiments among the naysayers.

Lucie: A dog’s life, remembered

In September 2004 a young, sickly and very pregnant dog invited herself to a patio party, forever changing the course of the lives of all those who were gathered there that day. Of course, none of them could have guessed that her arrival that day might one day save hundreds of other canine lives.

The Criminal Investigations Division with the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s in solving the theft of a 2015 Shoalwater boat and trailer from the Fordtran area between Hallettsville and Victoria.

Hallettsville’s Statue of Liberty was one of just two Lady Liberty miniatures found in the Lone Star State as of 2018, though a couple more have gone up in East Texas since. Still, she has almost as many visitors here in Hallettsville as those who swing by to see our historic courthouse over the course of a year, believe it or not.

Hallettsville voters keep Summers as mayor

Alice Jo Summers will retain her role as mayor of Hallettsville, voters decided Saturday.
Summers faced a three-way race for the city’s top elected position, with challenges coming from councilwoman and mayor pro-tem Cindy Renken and Hallettsville resident Gordon C. Clark.
