Local high school football: SP opens district with home game

St. Paul will host Conroe Covenant in  the district opener while the Comanches will wait until Oct. 18 to start district due to a cancellation and forfeit..Conroe Covenant at SPThe Cardinals are back at home for just the second time this season to welcome Conroe Covenant for the district opener.

Shiner cross country: Burns, Shiner boys advance to regionals

Shiner hosted the 28-2A District Cross Country meet Monday at Green Dickson Park.Varsity GirlsMegan Burns came in fifth and will run at the regional meet as an individual. She had a time of 14 minutes, 5.06 seconds.Jo Caka placed No. 24 in 16:29.46 and Jewel Caka was No. 26 in 17:29.

Shiner volleyball: Shiner battles hard in loss to Weimar

Teamwork, cohesion and intensity were there; the results were not as the Shiner volleyball team came up short. The Lady Comanches lost to Weimar 3-0 (26-24, 25-14, 25-20) in Shiner’s first district home game Oct. 1.

Shiner football: Shiner JV 38, Luling 3

The Comanches held Luling to a field goal in a 38-3 win.Lane Simper tossed three touchdowns to Brycen Rosales.Ismael Zamora contributed a pair of rushing touchdowns; Kaden Neskora had two successful two-point conversion plays.On the defensive side, Eli Mesa had one sack and one interception.

Local cross country: Lady Cards varsity get first at Shiner meet

Shiner cross country hosted the second Shiner meet at Green-Dickson Park with the field including Shiner Catholic School.The St. Paul girls varsity highlighted city of Shiner school performances by getting first in the girls varsity 1A-2A division.

Shiner volleyball: Fayetteville rallies to edge LC 3-2

With a 2-1 lead after three matches Friday against Fayetteville, the Lady Comanches were unable to finish things.The Lady Lions rallied to win two straight for a 13-25, 25-21, 20-25, 25-2 and 15-9.
