Yoakum Baseball: Vikings rally to win area round 2-1 against Bulldogs

 

 

 

Yoakum needed some extra time to win the first game of its area-round series against Lago Vista Friday at Rattle Field in San Marcos.
The Vikings came back on Saturday to win the Game No. 2 by a couple of runs and then turned up the heat with a 16-0 run rule in the tiebreaker.
The Bulldogs wrap up with an outright and undefeated district title, bi-district championship and area finalists and was state ranked for a good part of the season.
Yoakum loses Slayde Rice, Brayden Goode, Connor Zaruba, Tre Robbins, Julian Estrada and Austin Sherrer to graduation.
Yoakum 5, Lago V. 3 (Game 1, 12 innings)
The Bulldogs rallied from 3-0 deficit to force extra innings and played five of them to get a 5-3 win in the opener on Friday evening.
Lago Vista scored one run in the first, fourth and fifth innings. The ‘Dogs got within 3-2 in the sixth, tied things up with one score in the seventh and played solid defense until scoring two runs in the top of the 12th.
Goode led on the plate by going 3-for-4, run, RBI and stolen base.
Zaruba picked up the win on the mound with five hits, three runs, two wild pitches, two walks and six strikeouts in six innings; Rice worked six innings with a save, four hits, one batter hit three walks and six strikeouts.
Goode led the defense with five putouts.

Lago V. 6, Yoakum 3 (Game 2)
Qyion Williams went 2-for-4 with two doubles and RBI in the ‘Dogs’ 6-3 loss in the second game Saturday afternoon.
The Vikings took a 3-0 lead after five frames; Yoakum scored once in the sixth; Lago Vista brought in three more runs for a 6-1 lead in top of the seventh and Yoakum managed to score two but could not force extra innings.
Goode went six innings with six runs on six hits, three batters hit two walks and eight strikeouts; Wyatt Hanzalke worked one inning with two hits.
Zaruba made seven putouts in the field.

Lago V. 16, Yoakum 0 (Game 3)
The Vikings had a hefty third inning with 10 runs to finish off the series with a 16-0 win in five innings.
Lago Vista took a 4-0 lead after the first frame and added two runs in the fourth inning.
Zaruba, Ethan Franklin and Trey Robbins each had two hits as Yoakum finished with eight but could not score.
Estrada pitched 2 1/3 innings with seven runs on eight hits, two walks and one strikeout. Will Robbins and Hanzelka each pitched in the third inning, combining for four hits, seven runs and three walks. Trey Olivares came out in the third and worked 1 2/3 innings, two runs, six hits, a walk and strikeoutl.
Zaruba was the leader in the field with five putouts.
