With spots on the Yoakum Bulldog Band and Yoakum High School (YHS) Student Council, the class of 2022 Salutatorian emphasized academics and extracurricular involvement.
Jordan Ledlow looks to follow his interest in neuroscience to the Big Apple to study at New York University.
Ledlow explained in an interview on the eve of the YHS commencement ceremony that he uncovered a passion for working in the medical field through a school program with the Yoakum Community Hospital and great teachers.
He was a member of Club Med, a program where juniors and seniors learn about various professions in healthcare. Students get the opportunity to shadow personnel, receive presentations from healthcare professionals and complete service hours through volunteer work at the hospital.
“My anatomy teacher actually, Ms. Martinez, is the one who got me really into Club Med at first, and I would love to give all of the people at the hospital a shout-out…” said Ledlow. “Club Med is probably one of the main reasons that I'm going into the medical field.”
It was the ability to help out so many people that was one of the main factors that helped him determine his college major, he said.
Ledlow said he would miss several aspects of YHS, including pep rallies and performing with the band.
“I've had many directors, and all of them have been amazing,” Ledlow said. “They've definitely kept my attention on band. They made me grow to love it.”
He recalled one of his favorite accomplishments as a student council member was helping organize a blood drive in the YHS parking lot during a blood shortage.
“I’m going to miss all of the people: the teachers and all of the students…” Ledlow said. “I would like to thank all of my teachers, administrators and all the people that have come in contact with who helped me become the person I am today.”
