Seminarians ordained as transitional deacons Saturday

    Catholic seminarians Ryan Kapavik, a 2015 graduate of Shiner’s St. Paul High School, and Luke Prihoda
    were both ordained as transitional deacons during a special ceremony held Saturday, June 11, at the
    Cathedral of Our Lady of Victory in Victoria. The event was presided over by Victoria Diocese Bishop
    Brendan Cahill, and the Rev. Monsignor John Peters of Sacred Heart parish in Hallettsville,
    who also serves as vicar general for the diocese, who was also in attendance. Deacon Kapavik
    later returned to his home parish in Shiner that same day to lead Saturday evening mass at
    Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. Friends and family say that both young men have
    been steadfast in their respective spiritual journeys thus far. Saturday’s ceremony in Victoria
    brings them both one step closer to accomplishing their goal of becoming priests, and both
    should become eligible to accept their vows of ordination into the priesthood in less than a
    year.
