Moulton PD answers 744 calls during month of August 2022

August was a busy month for the Moulton Police Department, with 744 calls logged, 26 citations written, and 58 written warnings issued, six of those citations were for truck ordinance violations of the city truck route.

“I’m very fortunate to have our local citizens call me when they see a truck violating the roots, we try our best to get there as fast as well so we can cite them,” said Interim Police Chief Daniel Beyer.

Raul Diaz went to the doctor on Wednesday, Sept. 7, and was released to return work on Sept. 14. “We’re very glad to have him coming back. A lot of community members are asking about him and I've missed seeing him,” Beyer said.

Also last month, MPD officially added Bill Teich to the department as a part-time officer. After field training officer training, Teich worked his first solo shift on Wednesday, Aug. 24.

Wednesday was also the first day Officer Jeff Alexander worked as the School Resource Officer at Moulton ISD. That’s a part time officer after his FTO time he worked his first solo shift on Wednesday, Aug. 24. He has been working closely with Dr. Fairchild to make that happen.

School started on Thursday, Aug. 18. and with the new pickup lines and one-way streets that have been implemented, the department made sure to be around the school to make sure drop off and pick off went smoothly.

“As many of you know, Dr. Fairchild applied for an NRA grant,” said Beyer, who also serves as president of the Moulton ISD board of directors. “She recruited my help by asking me to write a letter about how the police department and school are working together to promote the safest environment for our students and staff and Moulton ISD.

“I also reached out to Bobby Horecka about the grant, and he wrote an article for the newspaper. The article was submitted with the grant hopefully will increase the school’s chance of receiving the grant. She should get an answer by mid-October as to whether they received it,” he said.

Finally, Mark Miller and TJ McCleney are working on details for the annual National Night Out now.

“We’ll be celebrating it on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at Moulton City Park,” Beyer said. “Bring the whole family and thank you for your constant continued support!”
