Comanche Band tops Class 2A at Seguin marching contest

The Fighting Comanche Band topped all the Class 2A bands competing at the Seguin Marching Festival last Saturday—winning higher scores than even a couple 4A bands, one 5A school and two 6A bands, their band director said—with 7th overall in the areawide marching band competition.

“Yesterday was a great day for the Comanche band,” said Zachary Sims, head band director for the Shiner Comanche Band. “We performed our first run in front of judges and ranked high enough to perform in finals. In the preliminary round of competition, the band made the highest score for Class 2A. We also had higher scores than all the 3As, one 5A band, and two 6A bands!”

The band had an even better run in the finals, Sims said

“The kids showed less nerves and really made some improvements from their prelims performance,” he said. “The band ended up seventh out of nine bands performing, which included both a 4A and 5A schools.

“We’re off to a great start in the competition season,” he added. “Thank you to our parents and community members who made the journey over to Seguin to support the band. Thank you to the boosters for helping with snacks and hauling all our stuff for the performances.”

The next Shiner band performance is Saturday at 3:45 p.m. at the Lost Pines Marching Festival. Sims said he looked forward to seeing everyone there.
