A two-vehicle head-on collision just before noon on Saturday, Oct. 15, left two teenagers dead and sent a third to an Austin hospital, the Texas Department of Public Safety reported Sunday.

Sgt. Rueben San Miguel, public information officer with the DPS out of Victoria, said the crash occurred “at about 11:30 a.m. Saturday along Texas Highway 111, about 4½ miles east of Yoakum.”

Kolson Brock Jacobs, 19, of Yoakum, and Lorin Gayle Miller, 18, of Shiner, were the occupants of one of the two pickups involved, Sgt. San Miguel said, adding that for reasons unknown, “the vehicle veered into the opposing lane of traffic,” where it collided with another pickup driven by Connor Jacobs Ratcliff, 18, of Yoakum.

According to the report, Jacobs died at the scene. A PHI helicopter flew Ratcliff to St. David’s Medical Center in Austin and Miller was taken by ground crew ambulance to the Yoakum Community Hospital, where she later died.

Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Hallie Hall called the deaths and ordered their autopsies.

The crash remains under investigation.
