Schroeder achieves 40 years of judicial service
Judge Gary J. Schroeder (Shiner High School Class of 1971) achieved a recognition that most Judges never do, serving actively for over 40 years as a Municipal Judge. He has worked for the Municipal Court for the City of Shiner for over 25 years and continues to serve as its Prosecutor.
He was first appointed to the bench by Mayor Carol Willey and council for the City of Gonzales on January 1, 1981 at the age of 28, making him the youngest Judge in Gonzales’ History and served for over 30 years and is now the Presiding Judge for the City of Smiley making him the longest serving Judge in the history of Gonzales County.
Judge Schroeder also serves as the Presiding Judge for the City of Cuero.
“I know that the majority of people that have any contact with the Judicial System is through the Municipal Court level and they form their impression of the system from that experience, so my intent has always been to be fair, follow the law and most of all use some common sense,” he said.
