Turtle Wing holiday night set Dec. 18 in Yoakum
The Turtle Wing Foundation, a Fayette County based non-profit organization dedicated to providing resources to special education students and their families, scheduled a holiday family night in Yoakum on Dec. 18 for students who receive assistance from the foundation.
The foundation’s annual Christmas party is free for member students and their families from Lavaca, Fayette and Colorado counties. The event will feature arts and crafts, games and snacks in the Yoakum High School Gym from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18.
“(The event will include) holiday and/or Christmas-themed crafts. The idea is that the child will get to make and take that evening. There won't be too many messy glue things, but items they will be able to take home and give to their family or friends as Christmas gifts,” said event organizer Cynthia Fogleman.
Fogleman said Turtle Wing hosts events around its service counties to make it convenient for families. Organizations like Arts for Rural Texas (ARTS) will join in hosting an arts and crafts tutorial at the event.
“We were (hosting events) before COVID and kind of hit the pause button on that. But now, we wanted to jump back in so all those attending families can meet each other,” said Fogleman. “We do our best to have enough volunteers on hand that those volunteers can engage the children in activities and allow the parents a little time to get to know each other.”
