Yoakum softball: Lady ‘Dogs softball win first two games, outscoring opponents 31-0

The Lady Bulldogs won their first two games of the season.

Hannah Schultz went 3-for-3 with a double and RBI, and pitched five innings with two hits and a shutout with six strikeouts as Yoakum won their regular-season opener 10-0 against Cuero at home Feb. 14. Macie Blakeney got two hits, scored twice and brought another run in; Olivia Fojt got a triple, scored two runs and had an RBI. Madilynne Steinmann pitched one frame in relief with one walk.
Lexi Zaruba led the defense with eight putouts.
Yoakum plated three runs their first time at bat, outscored Cuero 3-0 in the fourth inning, 1-0 in the fifth and 3-0 in the sixth to cap the game.

The Lady ‘Dogs exploded for 17 totals runs in the fourth and fifth innings to down Marion 21-0 Friday in Marion. Yoakum led 1-0 after one inning, 3-0 after two boxes and was ahead 4-0 after the third inning was complete.
Yoakum collected 18 hits led by Raelee Schlegal who got four hits, scored four times, had five RBI with two doubles and a triple. Steinmann was 4-for-5 with one run, four RBI, three doubles; Destiny Rios got a home run and was 2-for-3 with one run, three RBI.
Steinmann got the win with 4 2/3 innings pitched, three-hit shutout with five walks and 10 strikeouts.
Destiny Rios made two putouts.
