Yoakum baseball: Bulldogs fall in opener to Cuero
Clinging to a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third, the Cuero Gobblers scored two runs and then plated a run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to deal Yoakum a 7-1 defeat Monday in Cuero.
Cuero scored twice in the first inning and Yoakum got on the board with a single run in the top of the third frame.
Trey Olivares started on the mound for the Bulldogs, going two innings, with four runs on one hit, four walks and four strikeouts. Wyatt Hanzelka worked three innings, two runs on nine hits and Will Robbins pitched one inning with one run.
Qyion Williams led Yoakum at the plate as he went 2-for-4 with one run and three stolen bases while Ty Gordon was 2-for-4 with one RBI.
In the field, first baseman Sutton Pavliska made eight putouts.
