Shiner band students place well at State Competition

On Wednesday, February 8, three of the Shiner Comanche Bands’ finest members competed for a chair in the coveted All State Band.
Brooke Palmer earned 12th chair trumpet, Brianna Sofka earned 3rd chair Euphonium, and Aiden Collins earned 10th chair tuba. These results are outstanding on their own, but even more so because the students were competing against 3A schools.
Almost all of the students who were ahead of our band members were from a larger 3A school.
Our band members participated in the Association of Texas Small School Concert Band with students from across the state. Students rehearsed music from Wednesday night through Friday evening with BJ Brooks from West Texas A&M University. The ATSSB Concert Band performed a concert on Saturday, February 11 at the Lila Cockrell Theater in San Antonio.
The three band members were also able to attend the annual Texas Music Educators Association music convention in San Antonio that was held in conjunction with the ATSSB All State Band. The four day convention was held at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. Students were able to meet clinicians, learn from other directors, and test out new instruments and equipment
Congratulations to Brooke, Bri, and Aiden on their incredible achievement of making the ATSSB All-State band! The students have made our band, school, and community so proud of their efforts! GO BAND!
