Local young cattle raisers place in SA Stock Show
Next event at the Houston Junior Commercial Steer contest
Hallettsville FFA and Lavaca County 4-H members recently competed at the 2023 San Antonio Livestock Show Junior Commercial Steer Contest with four of the members placing in the Top 10.
In order to compete in the Junior Commercial Steer Contest, the members are required to raised a pen of two steers on feed for 158 days.
In addition, they must complete a beef industry knowledge exam, submit a financial record book and present a beef industry speech to a public audience and panel of judges. Results of the competition saw Ryan Janak place third and also scored the highest in the test competition and named Top Rookie overall.
Landon Koehne finished fourth with Jake Ressler placing sixth and Jett Long, tenth.
“We are proud of all of our exhibitors and look forward to their next event at the Houston Junior Commercial Steer contest on March 5 through 5,” said Hallettsville High School FFA sponsor and Ag Science teacher Heath Ressler. (Contributed photo)
