Yoakum softball: Lady Dogs get three wins week of Feb. 27
The Yoakum softball team defeated La Grange and won two of six games in the Ganado Tournament last week.
Yoakum 9, La Grange 3
The Lady Bulldogs plated six runs in the top of the seventh to break a 3-3 tie and defeat La Grange 9-3 Feb. 21 on the road.
The Lady Leps led 1-0 after one inning and 3-0 after two innings. Yoakum scored once in the fourth frame and tied the game with two runs in the sixth.
Yoakum gathered 14 totals hit with Destiny Rios, Madisen Grant Kaci Idlett, Raelee Schlegal, Madilynne Steinmann and Hannah Schultz all getting two hits each.
Steinmann started at pitcher going 3 1/3 innings with three runs on six hits, one wild pitch, one batter hit, two walks and two strikeouts; Schultz went 3 2/3 innings in relief with two strikeouts, getting the win.
Lexi Zaruba led the defense with seven putouts.

Ganado Tournament
Yoakum 7, Bay City 0
Schultz pitched a two-hit shutout and fanned 11 batters as the Lady ‘Dogs blanked Bay City 7-0 in the Ganado Tournament on Thursday.
Yoakum brought in two runs in the top of the first, scored once in the third box, plated one run in the fifth inning and scored three in the sixth inning.
Schlegal and Macie Blakeney each got two hits in the game, and Destiny Rios made three putouts in the field.

Yoakum 6, Victoria West 3
The Lady Bulldogs used a four-run bottom-of-the-first inning to rally from 1-0 down to defeat Victoria West 6-3 in their second game of the tournament. West cut the Lady ‘Dogs lead to 4-3 in the third inning and Yoakum scored two insurance runs in the bottom of the third.
Destiny Rios went 2-for-2, hit a home run and had three RBI while Schlegal got two hits and scored one run.
Steinmann went 3 1/3 innings with three runs on three hits, three batters hit, two walks and three strikeouts. Schultz had three putouts on defense.

Victoria East 9, Yoakum 4
The Lady Bulldogs fell behind early against Victoria East and could not recover, falling 9-4 in their third game on Thursday.
East scored three runs in the top of the first frame and the Lady ‘Dogs pulled a run back in the bottom of the inning.
East took a 4-1 lead in top of the second and Yoakum brought a single run across in the bottom of the frame. Yoakum made up some ground in the third box by outscoring East 2-0 before East pulled away with three runs in the fourth.
Schlegal led Yoakum at the plate as she was 1-for-2, home run, two runs and one RBI.
Olivia Fojt took the loss at pitcher with nine runs on seven hits, four walks and three strikeouts in four innings. Grant led the defense with four putouts.

El Campo held Yoakum to three hits and no runs in a 7-0 win on Friday. The Lady Ricebirds scored five in the first frame and added two more in the second inning.
Schultz and Blakeney had one each for Yoakum; Schultz and Steinmann pitched for Yoakum. In the field, Zaruba led with four putouts.

Ganado 6, Yoakum 2
Host Ganado scored four runs in the bottom of the first and went on to defeat the Lady ‘Dogs 6-2 on Friday. The Maidens outscored Yoakum 2-0 in the second inning and Yoakum dug down deep to score two runs in the top of the third. Grant led the offense by going 2-for-3 with one run, one double and a stolen base. Steinmann pitched two innings while Schultz went 1 1/3 innings in relief. Schultz had three putouts in the field.

Yoakum closed out the tournament with a 9-3 loss to Van Vleck Saturday. The Lady Leopards opened scoring with nine runs in the top of the second inning and the Lady ‘Dogs scored three in the bottom of the inning.
Van Vleck added two runs in the third frame.
Destiny Rios led Yoakum at the plate with one hit, one run, one RBI and one triple. Schultz pitched four innings with seven runs on six hits and four strikeouts while Steinmann faced five batters in the fourth inning, four runs and four walks.
Fojt and Destiny Rios each got two putouts on defense.
