St. Paul baseball: Cardinal hardballers earn win at Flatonia Tournament

St. Paul went 1-2 in the Flatonia Tournament last week.

The Cards opened tournament play against the hosts, holding on for a 10-8 win on Thursday.
The score was 1-1 after one inning and St. Paul went up 6-1 in the top of the third before Flatonia brought in two runs in the bottom of the inning.
St. Paul then went ahead 10-3 with four runs in the fourth and absorbed five Bulldog runs in the fifth box.
Five St. Paul batters got multiple hits with Nate Boedeker, Zeke Rodriguez and Jackson Ulcak getting a double.
Ulcak pitched 4 2/3 innings with 10 hits to score eight runs, one wild pitch, two walks and 10 strikeouts while Boedeker went 1/3 innings with one hit, one walk and one strikeout. Jacob Seibert had two putouts in the field.

Tidehaven pulled away from the Cardinals with four runs in each of the third and fourth innings for a 14-5 win Saturday.
The Tigers led 4-1 after one inning but just 6-5 after two innings.
The Cardinals had 11 hits with Boedeker, Fisher Davis, Ulcak and Jacob Seibert each getting two hits.
Davis pitched the first two frames with six hits, six runs, a wild pitch, three walks and a strikeout; Blaine Humes tossed for one inning, four runs on three hits, five walks and a strikeout. Boedeker closed out with two squares, four hits, four runs, four walks and four strikeouts. Seibert had three putouts in the field.

Fayetteville 13, St. Paul 8
Fayetteville boarded half a dozen runs in the bottom of the second inning and five in the third inning to rally for a 13-8 win over St. Paul later on Saturday.
St. Paul led 2-0 after its first time to bat and the Lions knotted the score inn the bottom of the first.
The Cardinals went ahead 5-2 in the top of the second before Fayetteville led 8-5 after the bottom of the inning and outscored the Cards 5-0 in the third before enduring a three-run fourth inning by St. Paul.
Ulcak led St. Paul on the bats with three hits, one run and two RBI with Rodriguez, Brody Biehunko and Seibert also getting two hits.
Rodriguez pitched two innings, eight runs on eight hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Davis went 2/3 innings, six hits, four runs, two walks and a strikeout; Humes worked 1/3 innings with one walk.
Boedeker and Rodriguez each had two putouts.
