Kim Mraz recipient of Dan Wilford award

Yoakum Community Hospital celebrated Kim Mraz as the local recipient of the CHC Dan Wilford award. This award is to recognize persons who demonstrate the following:
• Remarkable concern for the welfare and happiness of patients
• Significant contribution to the improvement of their community’s
health and welfare
• A level of commitment to community service beyond the daily operation
of the facility
• Extraordinary acts of kindness, positive effects on others
• Competent consistent and people oriented day-to-day performance.
“Kim’s actions set an example of caring for our hospital, staff, and patients. She is not afraid to speak up if someone is in need or something needs to change,” says her coworker. Over time, she has had areas of responsibility added to her plate including Quality Improvement, Infection Control, Compliance, Risk Management and Director of Housekeeping.
That explains why her nomination form says, “Kim is the one who makes sure we stay compliant. When a patient comes in with a concern, Kim is the one we all look to. When there is a housekeeping need, Kim is the one we go to. When a position needs to be filled, Kim is the one.”
It is impossible to pin Kim down on any work that she has personally done for patients that stands out to her, because she is insistent that all work she does is as part of a team and that she could not accomplish anything without her peers.
Regarding Covid Kim states, “Every challenge was met as a team. We would round-table the best solutions every day. I just pitched in wherever I could, as did everyone else.” She very frankly says, “I will do whatever it takes for the betterment of the hospital, staff and community.”
On a personal note, Kim and her family host a successful golf tournament in Shiner in honor of their father.  The money raised is used for youth to attain higher education.  This year they are preparing for their 7th annual tournament.
