St. Paul football: Cards predicted to win their district
Former St. Paul head coach Mike Jackson has returned to Shiner to once again lead the Cardinals and should have a solid team.
Jackson inherits a team that returns 19 players, and nine starters from an 8-5 2022 season that saw St. Paul capture another district title and play in its fifth straight state championship.
Football publication Dave Campbell’s Texas Football has predicted the Cardinals to capture theTAPPS IV-2 crown once again.
Depth on the lines will be a question to be answered for the Cardinals but they still have plenty of playmakers returning at the skilled spots to pose a threat. Running back Zane Barta (1,520 rushing yards, 20 touchdowns) will lead the offense along with Zeke Rodriguez, fullback Nate Boedeker and running back Gus Collins.
Boedeker at linebacker (47 tackles) and defensive back Nathan Timmons (two interceptions) will anchor the defense.
Other players to watch is OL-DL Tate Anders, RB-DB Sam Perez, OL-DL Gage Anders, OL-DL Zeke Basquez, TE-DL Charlie Pilat, WR-DB Carter Novak, RB-LB Alex Brown, WR-DB Vance Lucas, RB-LB Holden Jacobs, WR-DB Cody Malinovsky, OL-DL Jackson Seibert and OL-DL Brody Biehunko.
