Yoakum volleyball: Spikers beat El Campo in full non-district match, beat Lady Cobras in four to start district
The Yoakum Lady 'Dogs volleyball team survived El Campo and beat Industrial in the district opener in action last week.
Yoakum 3, El Campo 2
Down 2-1 after three sets at home to El Campo on Sept. 5, the Yoakum volleyball team rallied for two straight wins to beat the Lady Ricebirds in five, 15-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-18 and 15-11.
Madison Gonzales had 16 digs, two aces; Destiny Rios finished with seven kills, two digs, one block; Jayana Phillips had a team-high 27 kills and had nine digs, two blocks, one ace; Addison Pekar had 11 kills, two blocks; Sam Adamek tallied 12 kills, four digs, one block; Leah Muenich produced seven digs, one ace; Macie Blakeney had 49 assists, six digs, four kills, one block and Olivia Fojt had 24 digs, three aces.
Subvarsity
The Yoakum JV Blue won in two games, 25-23 and 25-20 while the JV White was downed by El Campo, 25-19, 25-21.
