Yoakum football: Yoakum welcomes the Sandcrabs and their triple option to Bulldog Stadium
The Bulldogs host Port Lavaca Calhoun for 2023 Homecoming.
Yoakum has started the season with two of three wins, beating Industrial 36-22 and Cameron Yoe 41-20 before getting edged out by Cuero in competitive game last week 41-34.
The Bulldog offense is putting up 37.0 points a game and the defense is yielding 27.6 points a contest
The Sandcrabs are also 2-1 on the season with wins over Corpus Christi West Oso (42-0) and Sinton (26-17). They lost their opener to Stafford 19-14.
Calhoun is scoring 27.3 points a game and yielding 12.0 points a game.
The Sandcrabs are a run-heavy offense with 711 yards in three games and average 237.0 yards a contest.
“They are fast and run triple option out of the flexbone. Our defense has to play their assignments well to defend this offense,” Yoakum head coach Bo Robinson said.
Jayce Campos leads the attack with 404 yards rushing, five touchdowns and rushes for 134.7 yards a game. Alex Parker (23-159, four touchdowns) and Darrik Salinas (8-154, two touchdowns) also support the run game.
Colton Judd leads the defense with 25 total tackles; David Castillo has five tackles for loss.
“Our offense line needs to block well up front to get the run game going,” Robinson said.
Yoakum won a hotly-contested game last year in Port Lavaca, 28-21.
