Power-up grant received by Police Department

The Moulton Police Department received a $20,000 power-up grant from GVEC for the Police Department.
“This is actually the second time we received the grant,” Police Chief Daniel Beyer said. “There’s a lot of departments and organizations that apply for it, so we were very lucky to receive it. I actually had one of my reserve officers help me write the grant and she did a great job. She made the grant stick out by making it really personable and featuring a bio of each officer and it was what they wanted to see.”
The department will be using it for a patrol pick-up. The pick-up is a 2024 Ford.
“It’s already on order and the city has budgeted money for it,” Beyer said. “Fortunately, the money we received from the grant will go back into my budget for the department which is going to help considerably. I can use the money that was allocated for the truck now to help us upgrade some of our equipment. Our computers for the car and body cameras are outdated so that $20,000 is going to be huge.”
The department has already budgeted $60,000 by the city during the budget cycle and after they received the grant, they can pull the $20,000 for whatever they see fit.
The department has three patrol vehicles and at a recent school board meeting, they were considering having an additional patrol vehicle for the School Resource Officer.
“It’s very important to me and the board members to have that patrol vehicle parked out in front of the school at all times ,” Beyer said . “ I have a 2015 Explorer and I’ll probably assign that one to the School Resource Officer so there will be a patrol vehicle parked in front of the school everyday that the kids are in session. We’ll be using the new 2024 Ford pick-up for (police) patrol.”
