Shiner boys basketball: Comanches deliver BHS’s first district loss
The Shiner Comanches ended Bloomington’s undefeated run in district with a 45-44 win in overtime after trailing by several points late in the fourth quarter.
Shiner was down 39-32 with a minute left in the game.
Kyle Muehlstein made a free throw to cut the lead to 39-33; Bloomington missed their shot on the following possession and Jake Simper drove down and scored before Jared Werner got a steal and scored a layup to get Shiner within 39-37. Quincy Jones got a steal and fed Simper for the game-tying bucket , 39-39, that forced overtime.
In overtime, Shiner built a two-point lead and Bloomington hit a triple with 25 seconds left to go up by one.
The Comanches’ shot on the next possession was missed but Boe Boehm got the rebound and kicked the ball out to Simper for a baseline 12-footer for the lead.
On the ensuing Bloomington possession, Simper got a steal with just a few seconds left and ran out the clock.
The Comaches were ahead 21-20 at halftime and a 7-6 run by the Bobcats in the third stanza tied the game at 27-27.
Carson Schuette led Shiner with 19 points, Simper squared away 15 points and Werner netted seven points. Muehlstein had 16 rebounds.
