Commissioners authorizes grant application
By Clayton Kelley
DeWitt County Commissioners approved a resolution authorizing the submission of an application to the Texas General Land Office for the Community Development Block Grant-Mitigation at the April 8 meeting.
The grant is in the amount of $1.3 million and Judge Daryl Fowler will act as the county’s Chief Executive Officer in all matters pertaining to the county’s participation in the grant program.
“This will go towards roads and drainage improvements which were identified as a (result) of hurricanes, tropical storms, and river flooding,” DeWitt County Precinct 3 Commissioner James Kaiser said.
Commissioners also received the 2023 annual report from the DeWitt County Historical Commission.
“I submit this report to the state,” DeWitt Historical Commission Chairwoman Peggy Ledbetter said. “I want to point out that the report shows that the number of appointees we have is at 50. Also, the number of volunteer hours that we keep record of was 4,151 hours.”
Ledbetter also detailed some projects that the Historical Commission had done in 2023. One of these includes assisting in Cuero’s 150th anniversary.
“We worked with the city and the 4-H’s clubs,” Ledbetter said. “It was a real community effort and our goal was to educate the youths and the adults on the rich history of Cuero.”
