It's Picnic time
The annual Sacred Heart Parish Spring picnic is Sunday, with all activities taking place at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Hallettsville.
The traditional meal consisting of country fried chicken, stew, homemade cornbread dressing with all the trimmings will be served in the hall from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. The cost of the dinner plates are $13.00.
Drive thru plates-to-go, at $13 each, will also be available from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Prior to the start of the auction, a brief memorial will be conducted by Sacred Heart Parish pastor Msgr. John Peters.
The auction will start at 1 p.m. at the main pavilion and will have an assortment of items including cattle, antiques, handmade quilts, homemade canned goods and noodles, vegetables, outdoor furniture and many more items for sale.
Inside the air-conditioned hall, a cake walk, country store and a religious article booth will be available as well as bingo starting at noon until 6 p.m.
Outside the hall, various booths will be available along with entertainment for the children throughout the afternoon.
In addition, a washer pitching tournament is slated to start at 5 p.m.
Starting at 11 a.m. and playing until 1 p.m., the Kovanda Czech Band will perform under the main pavilion.
Moving over to the Polka/Biergarten Pavilion, Texas Sound Czech and the Red Ravens will provided the music from 1 to 7 p.m.
Delicious hamburgers, nachos, popcorn, funnel cakes, sno-cones and plenty of cold drinks will also be available throughout the afternoon.
A prize give-away drawing will be held with cash certificate prizes given away following the auction.
In addition, tickets will be sold throughout the picnic involving the “20 Grand Giveaway”, that includes the top prize of $10,000. This prize drawing will take place at the fall picnic on Sept. 1.
