Moulton gearing up for annual Jamboree

By Clayton Kelley

The City of Moulton is getting ready for its annual Moulton Jamboree beginning Saturday, July 27.

“The Town and Country Jamboree is a celebration of our community spirit offering free entertainment for everyone while raising funds to support our other free events throughout the year,” Moulton Chamber Director Randy Stevenson said. “Our success is built on the support of our community, especially our dedicated volunteers and generous donors. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who have already committed their time and resources. We encourage Moulton residents to continue their support to ensure this cherished tradition endures for many years to come.”

The schedule for the Jamboree is as follows:

Saturday

The official Jamboree will kick off with a softball tournament at 8 a.m. at the Moulton City Park. Registration for the tournament is $150.

The deadline for turning in barbecue will be on this day with chili turn-in being at 10 a.m., beans at 11:30 a.m., chicken at 1 p.m., ribs at 2:30 p.m., and brisket at 4 p.m. The awards will be announced at 5:30 p.m. at the Moulton Park pavilion.

There will be music from “Kenneth Kristynik and Lavaca County Line,” “The Drew Oliver Band,” “Keith Hickle,” and “The Emotions.”

There will be a tractor pull starting at 7:30 p.m. This has been a Jamboree tradition for years.

Sunday

The car and tractor show will begin at 9 a.m. A pie contest will be held at the Community Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with the pie auction beginning at 2 p.m. at the Moulton Oaks Hall.

A corn hole tournament will be held at the tennis courts at 3 p.m. The registration for this tournament is $40.

Music will be provided by “The Czechaholics,” “The Shiner Hobo Band,” and “The Southpaw Band.”

All food and arts and craft vendors will be setting up shop on both Friday and Saturday.

There will also be a kid’s zone on both days which includes a water park.

This year, it was announced that the Moulton Chamber of Commerce opted to cancel the Moulton Royalty Pageant.

“We didn’t have any applications,” Moulton Chamber President Anna Bartos said. “There were two ‘Littles’ who said they were interested. However, we didn’t have any ‘Miss Moulton’ or ‘Junior Miss Moulton’ contestants apply. It’s kind of hard to put together a pageant with only two contestants. It saddened my heart because we really love the pageant. We’re close to 50 years of having the royalty pageant. There were a couple of years before in 2015 that we had to cancel the pageant. We went on a run of around three years of no royalty pageant. However, in 2019, we did the royalty pageant again. This year, there’s no pageant, but we will revisit it next year. We’ve already tossed around ideas on what we could do. We definitely want to have Moulton's name out there.”

The City of Moulton is always looking for vendors for the Jamboree. They can sign up to be a food vendor or arts and crafts vendor on the Moulton Chamber of Commerce website. Judges are also needed as well and they must contact Diane Rothbauer at 361- 772-4825 if interested. All judges must sign up by July 15.

Last year, there were around 42 cook teams that signed up for the Barbecue contest with 20 teams signing up closer to the Jamboree.

“We’re hoping to get those same teams and possibly up that number this year,” Bartos said.
