St. Paul softball: Green plays in nine games in EBTU softball’s national championship season
St. Paul graduate and East Texas Baptist University softball player Sydney Green took part in nine games in the school’s national championship season.
The Lady Tigers were crowned NCAA Division III National Champions after beating Belhaven (Mississippi) 2-1 (3-4, 8-2 and 9-5) in the national-championship series played in Marshall June 4-5. It was their second Division III title after winning one in 2010.
All of Green’s contributions came at the plate.
At Southwestern on Feb. 18, Green was walked once and scored one run in the Lady Tigers’ win in the first game of a doubleheader with ETBU taking an 8-5 win in five innnings.
In the 2023 NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga. March 3 against Babson, she was 1-for-1 with two RBI in a 13-2 Lady Tiger win in six innings.
March 9 in the final game of a three-game series at Howard Payne, Green was 1-for-1 in an 8-0 win for ETBU in five innings.
March 16 at home to Concordia University in the third game of a three-game series, she was 0-for-1 in a 13-2 Lady Tigers win.
March 23 at home to Mary Hardin-Baylor, she hit 1-for-1 in a 6-0 Lady Tiger victory.
At home to Birmingham-Southern College in the second game of a doubleheader on March 28, she was 0-for-1 as ETBU took care of business 12-1 in five innings.
In an away contest at McMurry University on April 2 in the opener of a doubleheader and three-game series, Green was 0-for-1 at the plate and the Lady Tigers rolled to an 11-0 win in six innings.
Against Hardin-Simmons on April 12, she was 0-for-1 as ETBU won 4-1 in the first game of a doubleheader and opener of a three-game series.
For the season, Green was 3-for-7 with one run, two RBI and one walk.
