Local high school football:Football teams on the road this week

Comanche Stadium will be quiet this Friday as both teams will be on the road.
St. Paul at Bay City Christian
The Cardinals return to the Houston area with a game at Bay City Christian in League City.
The Broncos dropped their opener against Bishop Gorman 25-14.
St. Paul lost out to KIPP Sunnyside rally 30-23.
Bay Area Christian runs very similar offenses and defenses to the Cardinals.
“I don’t feel they are as fast and athletic as KIPP Sunnyside,” St. Paul head coach Barry Wolf said. “We will have a chance. Bay Area Christian has good size but nothing outstanding from what we have seen on film.”
The Broncos offense will be led by fullback Noah Pike and quarterback Austin Ariens, both seniors.
“Our defense will need to control the line of scrimmage and get to the ball quickly,” Wolf said.
Bay Area Christian’s defense is led by  senior linebacker Ryder Talley.
“He is everywhere,” Wolf said. “I feel our offense can wear them out. In their first game, their defense ran out of gas.”
“We are getting in better shape. This will be a really good game between two running teams and whoever can complete some passes will likely win the game.”

Shiner at Rice Consolidated
The Comanches play the first of two road trips as they head down 90A to Altair to play Rice Consolidated.
The Raiders won their opener 27-0 against East Chambers.
“Rice is going to be a quality opponent. They are very talented,” Shiner head coach Daniel Boedeker said.
Quarterback Kor’Dae Johnson completed 14-of-19 passes for 181 yards and two touchdowns.
D’neriyan  Fuller pulled in seven catches for 107 yards and one touchdown.
“D’neriyan is their go-to receiver. Robert Bennett is also a quality receiver,” Boedeker said. “Kor’Dae is a  very athletic quarterback,  who can run and throw.  We will have to keep our eyes on those guys. They also have a big offensive line.”
Dyren Johnson led the team in rushing with 113 yards on 13 carries and one touchdown.
“He has got a lot of speed,” Boedeker said.
Keundric Pratt led the defensive with seven solo tackles.
“Rice runs the split on defense and have two solid defensive tackles and two good linebackers,” Boedeker said. “We will need good pad level and get movement up front. We will need to sustain drives and score when we get the chance.”
Shiner came up short to Hallettsville in the opener 22-15.
